Rose Bouquet
The gift of a rose bouquet is a very romantic gesture. Giving a dozen or more not only shows a willingness to spend money, but more importantly shows the recipient that they are loved. Normally a bouquet of a dozen means true love or love that will last a lifetime.
To keep the romantic gesture from wilting, place them in water as soon as possible. Make sure the water is tepid and add floral preservatives or a small amount of ground up aspirin. Trim the stems about one inch at a slant using a knife, and remove any torn leaves or foliage that is below the water line. Re-cut the stems every day and add more preservative every other day. Keep them out of sunlight and away from heaters, the bouquet will typically last about ten days after the buds have bloomed.
Bouquets can be dried so that they can be enjoyed in a shadow box or a vase for a lifetime. This should be done a few days before the blooms show any signs of wilting. Secure stems together with floral wire just below the heads; wrap them tightly as the stems will shrink as they dry. Hang upside down in a dim room for about a week, or until fully dry.
