At Petrose.com we have all the information one could need about roses, not for buying them but for growing and caring for them as well. We ourselves do not sell roses, just merely informers on what to look for and how to spot healthy, well-cared for roses.

The tradition of giving roses is a timeless one. While many men will just buy the prettiest bouquet at the floral shop, it’s important to learn what the size and color of the bouquet signify. The wrong choice in color could send the totally wrong message. Read on for more information on the tradition of roses.
Bouquet size can mean a number of things:

•Single rose- traditionally a single rose signifies the intention to court the recipient. If the rose is given in a color aligned with friendship or apology it means the message is simple and sincere.

•Three roses- this is a peace offering for quarreling lovers. For those just beginning their relationship it can signify the past, present, and future.

•Six roses- this number is the number used to represent wives, mothers, or grandmothers. This is a perfect size bouquet for Mother’s day or Grandma’s birthday.

•Bouquet of nine or more- roses are usually given in multiples of three.Flower arrangements this size traditionally accompany a declaration of love.

•A dozen roses- the dozen is used to express the intention to stay with the recipient for a lifetime. Traditionally given from husband to wife, the large number represents the history shared by the couple.

Beyond the size of the bouquet, the color says more. Since roses are available in many colors it’s easy to be confused over which color is appropriate:

•Red- means love, more namely romantic love. The red rose makes a simple statement, “I love you.” This color should not be given to family because of the romantic connotations.

•Purple or lilac- this color means that the one who gave the roses fell in love with the recipient at first sight.

•Coral or orange- sends a message of desire. The intentions are lusty ones.

•Yellow- is the color of joy and friendship. Yellow is the perfect flower to give to a friend or family member, but because they state pure friendship intentions, should not be given to a lover.

•Pink- means gratitude and appreciation. These are also traditionally given to young girls.

•Light pink- stands for admiration and sympathy. Light pink is a good color for those who are ailing or mourning.

•Peach-also represents sympathy, along with gratitude.

•White- of course means purity and reverence. This is often carried by virgin brides or given from parents to their daughter. White can also mean discretion.

•Blue- a unique, hard to find color that means mystery and impossibility. Great for those who love adventure and surprises.

•Black- this rose is often actually a deep, dark red and means mourning or death. Also believed to mean vengeance by some, and some even claim it means rebirth. Generally black roses should be avoided due to the negative omen.

•Dead roses- say one thing and one thing only, “it’s over.”

While all these colors have symbolic meaning, the personality of the recipient is what matters the most. If her favorite color is pink then giving her a bouquet of pink roses will mean just as much to her- if not more- than the traditional red. Roses make every woman feel loved and appreciated. Just buying her a single rose shows that someone was thinking about her and that’s what giving flowers is all about.
